FAQs on Cost and Performance Accounting
Cost Accounting – also known as Cost and Performance Accounting – is an add-on for the worldwide known Microsoft Dynamics NAV ERP solution specifically designed for the “internal” accounting area.
Due to the fact that Cost Accounting is intended almost exclusively for internal analyses, it is not subject to any statutory provisions. It primarily provides short term information regarding the revenue and costs of a company. As a result, it provides the basis for operational planning of the management and enables a relatively simple comparison of budgeted and actual data.
You need more than the conventional and commonly used dimensions, such as cost centre and cost unit? Do you need additional dimensions and analysis features, such as profit centre, location, region, countries and product groups? Cost Accounting can help you out.
You can define any number of dimensions and use them as posting information. This way, you have high flexibility in analysing your operational accounting by using different perspectives and approaches.
If you want to use additional accounting systems in addition to classic full costing, you are right on track with Cost Accounting. In addition to direct costing, you also have the option of flexible budget costing and marginal costing.
As part of flexible budget costing, you can administrate and analyse budgeted and actual values of reference values, e. g. hourly information.
Within marginal cost accounting, you can additionally determine and compare budgeted costs. Here, the necessity for recording performance data, such as km, kw/h, hours or other types of performance within cost accounting finally becomes clear. Hence, the name for the system: Cost and Performance Accounting.
It is possible to administrate overhead rates for classic overhead costs in Microsoft Dynamics NAV. If you want to determine these automatically for your work in cost accounting, you can use the automated process for budgeted and actual charge rates.
Determine the overhead rates required for your calculations for material, production, administration and/or general sales costs within Cost Accounting.
The following options are possible in addition to the Microsoft Dynamics standard features:
- use of step ladder method (according to performance, cost type, rate, cost unit account, cost unit performance),
- quantity x cost rate (by using a reference value with charge rate)
- iteration groups + sequence
- allocation amount: cost type or fixed amount
- allocation reference: actual / plan
- iteration groups / number of loops /date filter code
- allocation preview / allocation cancellation
Cost Accounting allows you to separate fixed and variable components and to assign and analyse the contribution margin levels in a variable manner.
